If you are a user of PreSonus products and are about to hit the download button and install the new Apple operating system macOS High Sierra then read this first.

A few basic things you should do before updating an OS.

  1. Make sure you are not in the middle of an important project - if you are delay updating until you have time to do this right.
  2. Check that ALL the software and hardware you depend on has been certified as macOS High Sierra compatible, here is a helpful article on macOS High Sierra compatibility.
  3. If you are going ahead then make sure you BACK UP your entire Mac system drive so that should the worst happen and you have to reformat and start again you can put you machine back to the state it was in before the issues. Use a cloning program like Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper - these make a bit-by-bit clone of the drive, DON'T simply drag and drop files and folders to copy, this is not a clone of your drive and may miss out on vital elements to your system.
  4. Once you are sure you have both time and backups of your Mac OS then download the new version of macOS High Sierria.
  5. Then start the install, do not turn off your Mac, if you are using a laptop ensure the charger is connected and working. Let the software install complete until you get the login screen.
  6. Then open up your most used applications and check that they all work as expected.
  7. If they don't then a good place to start is by trashing the preferences in the Library folder on your Mac.

PreSonus has made this 'Apple Mac OS X 10.13 (High Sierra) and iOS 11 compatibility' statement. It is comprehensive and reads;

NOTE: If you want to run 10.13 High Sierra, we strongly suggest that you create a separate partition on your hard drive and install OS X 10.13 there in a multi-boot configuration so that you can test all of your software installations separately.
